Tips for choosing a playground
By the child's age
Children aged 1–4 enjoy low climbing structures, swings and soft safety surfaces. Older kids find more challenge in adventure parks, trampoline zones and high-rope courses.
By the weather
On rainy or cold days, indoor playgrounds are a safe choice — you can filter only indoor venues on the Search page. In summer, outdoor playgrounds also offer picnic spots and water play.
Free vs. paid?
Public, municipally-run playgrounds are free and open year-round. Amusement parks, indoor playgrounds and water parks charge admission, but they offer more equipment and guided activities.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between a playground and a play area?
On this site the terms are used as synonyms: all general public play areas are listed under the Playgrounds category. The Activities category includes amusement parks, indoor playgrounds, water parks and other usually paid venues.
How do I find the nearest playground?
Use the “Near me” feature. Your browser will request your location and then show the nearest sites in distance order. Your location is processed only in your browser — it is never sent to a server.
When are playgrounds open?
Public outdoor playgrounds are open around the clock, although lighting may limit evening use. Indoor playgrounds, amusement parks and water parks have venue-specific opening hours — check the individual venue page.
What should I consider when choosing a playground?
Start with the child's age: small children do best with low climbing equipment and soft safety surfaces, while bigger kids enjoy adventure parks or trampoline zones. Indoor playgrounds are a safe bet on rainy or cold days. Public playgrounds are free; amusement parks and indoor playgrounds charge admission but offer more equipment and guided activities.
